Rick is semi-retired. He moved back to Iowa in 2010 after spending 27 years in Everett, Washington as a Union Sheet Metal Worker. He is now the caretaker for his parents. While in Washington, Rick coached the Washington State Bad Apple Junior Team for 3 years. He has tried out for the last three Palma Teams and he has won numerous awards in the Northwest Region of the country. Rick has also set Range records in Washington and Wisconsin. He participated in the World Championships in Cannaught, Canada in 2007. In 2009, Rick was selected as a coach for the U.S. National Developmental Team, in 2010 at Cannaught, and numerous Team matches across the United States.
In 2011, Rick coached the U.S. F-Class team in Tullamore, Ireland. He assisted the U.S. Team in bringing home two gold medals from the 2011 Creedmoor Match. This was the first time this match has been held since 1874.
Rick also participated in the World Long Range Championships at Brisbane, Australia in 2011. He was an important asset to the U.S. Goodwill Team and assisted in bringing home a Gold Medal from those team matches.
Rick’s 2012 accomplishments include the two Regional Gold medals, coaching an all F-T/R team at Camp Perry, a Gold medal coaching an 8-man Team in the America’s Match, also at Camp Perry. This was the first time F-Class was allowed at the National Matches at Camp Perry. Rick also coached the Gold medal winning team for the Stars and Stripes 8-man team match at Raton, NM in 2012.
